Glimpse of Ancient Armenian Life in Van Fortress

Fortress of Van: (Armenian: Վանի Բերդ)

Archaeological excavations at the Van Fortress, built by the proto-Armenian nation of Urartu and Armenia kingdoms thereafter have uncovered beads and jewelry attesting to the lives of the Van Fortress inhabitants. The archaeological team, led by Erkan Konyar of the Istanbul University excavated the areas surrounding the fortress, but failed to affirm the importance of the Armenian civilization in establishing the magnificence of the city since antiquity in a recent press release. Given the relevance of the Armenian ethnos in the history of Lake Van and the Fortress of Van, archaeologic excavations of the Armenian Highland should rightfully be overseen by representatives of the Republic of Armenia.
