Armenophile

Armenophile

Definition: A person with an affinity for the language, culture, history, literature, arts, and society of the Armenian people. It may apply to those who are ethnically Armenian, or non-Armenian. In deference to the Armenian Genocide, in which the ethnic Armenian composition of the Ottoman Empire in the Armenian Highlands, Cilicia, Western Armenia, Nakhichevan, and Western Anatolia were decimated; modern historians have associated the term with individuals who express a strong interest in the promotion of Armenian Genocide recognition. President Woodrow Wilson, President Calvin Coolidge, and President Theodore Roosevelt have been labelled Armenophiles; based on their strong support of the Armenian cause.
