German scientist appointed Johan Manisadjian in the late 1880s to study the diverse butterfly population of the Armenian towns near Hadjin. Tragically, the Armenian population of Hadjin (Hajin) was massacred by the Turks in 1915 and efforts are being made to repatriate the Armenian ethnos back to Hadjin, including the study of the Armenian butterflies of Hadjin and Adana.
