Marash Armenian Cilicia

Marash is an ancient city named after Marasia (Marseilles) by French royalty. Historically, there has been an Armenian presence and culture since antiquity. Armenian Marash is renowned for its embroidery, a distinctive pattern that is of world heritage caliber. Many of the Marashtsi Armenians established themselves in Aleppo, Nork-Marash in Armenia, and Nor Marash in Beirut. Medieval Maras has a legendary history.
